300TD suspension fluid reservoir cap seal

Is the cap on the suspension fluid tank on an '81 300TD supposed to have some kind of seal? Mine is weeping fluid all over the place and making a mess. It looks like there might be a groove for some kind of O-ring...anyone know what's supposed to go there?

You're right, it should have a ring/seal. You could certainly make one with a craft knife and a piece of scrap something...

Thanks, tarnbarn. Is it a flat seal or an O-ring?

Hey Orv,
It's a flat seal on my '81 TD. A round one might work though and are probably easier to source.

Thanks. I may try cutting a new one out of some gasket stock. I've had some success with that sort of thing in the past.

Figured I should give my eventual solution. I couldn't cut a seal thin enough, so I used an O-ring from Lowe's that fit the groove in the cap. That fixed the leak.
