'93 300D, Shut Off Valve and Stop Lever Question
I had an oil leak from my stop lever so I took it all apart/off except for the rod.
The rod became disconnected from the little nib that is on the shutoff valve and I've spent the last three or four hours trying to fish it back on. I've read the DIY thread on something similar but what I really need is to know how exactly the stop lever rod connects to the shut off valve. This is completely frustrating and I don't feel like taking off the intake manifold and all that other stuff to do this. And....it's hotter than hell outside. PLEASE HELP!!!!

I don't think they're directly connected. The actuator rod drops straight down from the actuator and the shutoff lever rod is ahead of the rod. They must both attach to some intermediate linkage inside the IP.
See attached image from the FSM (moderators might remove it to observe copyright) showing how the stop lever attaches to the actuator rod through linkage 2r. Sixto 87 300D |

Thank you very much Sixto.
At least now I can try to imagine what is going on in there. All I could see within the pump is what looks like a washer holding the rod inside the IP. Since the SOV's come without anything attached I'm assuming this intermediate device is actually permanently attached to the stop lever rod. And....from what I see in the pic it looks like I will have to maneuver the rod so that I can reattach it to the aft side of the SOV rod. The last time this happened(yes, I did this before....) I seem to remember lowering the rod and coming up to get it to attach. This is hell.... Thanks again for the diagram.

Has anybody else successfully reattached the stop lever rod to the SOV?
If so....how the hell did you do it???? This is frustrating as hell.

Did you resolve this? I am not writing to offer a solution but to learn as I have found myself in the identical position as you. Can't seem to re-engage that Stop lever shaft in the proper orientation so the engine stumbles on until you open the hood and press down the stop lever. Whats the trick? 1993 300D 318k |
