Help with oiling system/remote filter
OK I've been lurking here for a while and I've now got a problem that I just can't seem to figure out. I'm using an 85 OM617 and have swapped it into a Cherokee. I made an oil filter adapter (biased on the housing gasket) used a dual PH8a-type filter system, ran 1/2" oil lines, and an aftermarket oil cooler. I used the FSM oiling system pics that are floating around this site to map out my block inlet/outlet and set up the system to run pan, cooler, filters, block. I also had to notch my pan similar to what the Yota and Rover guys are doing, but still have good clearance around the pump/pickup.
So my problem it that I wasn't getting any oil pressure or flow. I finally just cracked one line at a time at the block plate and found that it's leaving the block at the lower hole, this seemed opposite from what I was reading on the FSM sheets. So then I did a staggered check of the lines to make sure I was getting flow all the way back to the block and I was. But when I hooded the wet gauge up I was only getting about 20psi and it would drop with a little throttle. When I got the engine and did a run test I had 60psi. So then I went to take the wet gauge out of the port and when it was removed I had a gusher of oil follow it. And yes the engine was off. Overall I think I have a restriction somewhere in the system, but I can't think of where. Could it be possible the the cooler I got doesn't flow enough or properly? That's the only other thing I can think of. Anyone else have any ideas? |

There's a member here with a Rover who was selling remote oil filter kits. See if you can find him in a search and PM him.

It's always the last thing you check.......just got done looping out the oil cooler and like magic I've got 55lbs @ idle. Time to spend the money on a quality cooler.
