Horn inoperable

I tried using my horn recently as a test and it didn't work. Naturally, I will need my horn functioning to pass inspection. I have changed out the turn signal stalk recently, but I don't know if that could be related or not. Anyone have any insight? I couldn't even see where the horns are located underneath the hood, so I couldn't see if a wire is corroded or something. Help!

Does defrost work? They're on the same fuse/circuit.

Defrost barely works, if at all. After 15 minutes, not even 10% of the window is clear.

EDIT: I should note that the defrost never worked right since I got the car, but I never had a problem with the horn. Until now, that is.

What he was asking was, is the blower motor running on the defrost setting?

If its working correctly it should be BLASTING out air....

The turn signal stalks are different for different years. I tried putting in a junkyard replacement in a 77 300D that I had and the wiring looked the same but when I hooked it up and turned the key on the horn was blaring no matter what. So make sure the is the same and that you connected everything. There are two little wires that come from the horn that have to be clamped into the signal stalk via two screws, make sure those got connected

Test light at the horn connection would be my second check after the fuse,if youve got live wires here then youll need a set of new or used working ones.Ive noticed if a car sits long enough the horns will go bad ,not enough use I guess.

Check fuses

Not sure about your car and model, but check the fuses, replace all of them if they're old, an entire set might cost you $15. Get the copper ones, not the metal ones as they pit over time, and cause problems.

I just removed my horns tonight. They were bad. But when I pressed the horn button, they did make a little squeak to indicate that the were getting power. I assume there is no sound at all from yours?

I'm pretty sure that's what it is. I will check on that as soon as I have a chance. But if that doesn't work...

This problem is endemic to Oshkosh MTVRs. I haven't seen it on other vehicles, but it wouldn't surprise me.

When you swapped the stalk did you make sure the carbon brushes went back in correctly?

FSM 54-310, if you've got it. Step 3. The horn gets power through the stalk connection.
