Correct Fan Clutch for 11 Blade Plastic Fan?

Hey, Gentlemen.....

I am running a plastic 11 blade (IIRC) fan on my 1978 300SD that I got from Pik-N-Pull. I found it in the turnk of a car and recognized it, so I have been using it for a couple of years.

I would like to replace the clutch, buut need to know what fan this car came on from the factory.

Can you assist????

Thanks.....Robert

An 11 blade fan comes standard on the 98-99 E300 (606 turbo).

Maybe it is 9 blade. I will count it when my wife parks it for more than 5 minutes...

If you need a clutch badly, it might take more than 5 minutes to spin to a stop

A 606 fan will not bolt to a 617 clutch and a 606 clutch won't come near bolting to a 617 water pump.

Are you sure it's even an OE MB fan? Might it be off a BMW or Volvo?

It has the MBZ star on the blades and the clutch, along with another PN....

You should upgrade to the 0.9:1 water pump pulley too (stock is 1.09:1). Without it you won't get the best cooling capacity.

The smaller pulley measures approximately 5 7/8 inches and is only from '84 and '85 300SD 617.951.

The bigger 617.95x commonly found pulleys measures approximately 6 15/16 inches.
