The radiator definitely has an obstruction. I removed the upper and lower hoses, flushed the radiator with a garden hose, there is a back pressure in the radiator. The water does flow through, but not fast.

I did the same to the new radiator before installing. There is no back pressure and the water flows through fast.

Should have time to finish the job later tonight. Will keep you posted.

When you get a chance, remove the top tank on the old radiator to see what's inside. I think I used a large flat blade screw driver and twisted it between the tank and the retaining collar to open each crimp. When I put it back together, after cleaning it out, I used a couple of pipe clamps to hold the tank in place while I gently tapped each crimp back in place with a hammer and a punch.

The radiators in these old MB cars are well designed ,the reserve tanks are commendable also.In alot of what Ive come across in buying these workhorses is what should be called radiator abuse.Just plain water to top off a radiator is not good ,in some cases Ive drained just straight water .Its the first thing Ill do in as a service to any used MB car and Ill change it once a yr ,much like I do the trannie service . In your replacement youve added many new miles to your car, congradulations and keep that old girl on the road.

I think it's fixed. Drove the car in town 10 miles and on the highway for 15 miles with a/c on and off. Temp is between 80 and 82.

Only reason I say I think is because it is 60 deg outside. I will know for sure on a hot day soon.

Thanks for all the help from everyone. Definitely saved me money.

Mike

Were your MPG's better at the higher temps?
