Scraper or Junkyard?

My TD is going away at the end of the week.

I assume I could get more money for it if I took it to a pick-apart or something. Only problem is it doesn't drive. So it would need towed. Second problem is, I really do not want to let it go with the studded snow tires on it. I only have 5 bundts now and 4 of them have the snows. The filth one is some old flat tire.

Is it possible to get someone willing to tow it without wheels?

What if I call someone to come get it for cash.. think they would take it without wheels?

I saw some pics on here not too long ago that show a MB that they cut up with a sawzall and strapped to the bed of a pick up. They then drove it to a scrape metal place.

Any ideas on what to do?

Ask if the yard will let you pull the wheels once it's at their facility. They might let you borrow a set of wheels up front to get it there.

that's not a bad idea, since they move cars via forklift.

Now I need a way to get it there for little to no money.

auto junkyard or pick a part then at least others get to pick parts. If it goes to the scraper, then no one gets any parts from it.

I will keep this in mind, although I would prefer cash in hand when I "sell" it.

Thanks

Ashedd, the "Pull a Part" out on W16th street pays pretty good money if you can drive it in. They have a fleet of tilt bed trucks with winch that can pull it on with or without wheels. They paid me close to $525.00 this spring for the LIncoln. I think they pay about 50% of that if they pick it up.

Thumbs up

I have been quoted ~$11 per 100lb down here in the Houston, TX area for non runners. I had to have an E150 hauled off a property recently.

That's the one I've been eyeballing. I could do the tacky tow strap thing, I've been known to do it in a pinch. Two problems with that, well three: 1) Rear calipers are sitting in the garage, 2) doesn't run(very little brake pressure), 3) The engine is "sitting" on the cross support underneath it. Under the right circumstances it could hit the ground lol.

I could set it on fire... I do have a mosquito problem out back.

When i scrapped my 300sd, we used our forklift and put it on our car trailer with out the wheels and the scrapyard picked it off the trailer. I would find a damn cheep towing company that will winch it up without wheels. Or find a friend with a trailer, and tow it up on the trailer, then use your floor jack on the trailer to take all the wheels off.

I was just in your area today, spent the day watching the Grand Prix race at the Motor Speedway.

I have a question...why worry about the wheels and tires? None of your listed fleet can use the bundts or the 14" tires, unless your are planning on selling them separately.

I am planning to sell them... I really have no need for them. I just find it hard to junk nice studded tires I paid a pretty penny for.

I already have 15" snow tires for my TE.

I dunno, it wouldn't be the end of the world if they got junked.

Question

May I ask (it has probably been covered on here several times) Why you are parting out this car? Also is that 3rd seat you have listed from the same car as the blue door panels? I would think that might look sorta strange.

ive now used this website several times-

junkmycar . com

worth punching in the info on the 300TD and seeing what they come up with as far as what they might pay you.

Ive used them because of the sight unseen part of it, I can push a scrap car out, they quote me on what they might pay, I opt for a check in the mail, and I don't have to dicker with a junkyard or towing company. They just come and get it, and a couple days later I get a check.

If the car is absolutely valueless, they will still come get it but pay you nothing. Just recently they paid me 75 bucks for a rabbit with no engine or drivetrain, 10 percent of the body panels, and nothing of any value left. It was essentially 4 wheels and rust.

Thanks
Its pretty much cash in hand as youll be getting to deduct blue book value from your tax return.
