Fresh air for turbo on '79 300SD w/Euro headlamps

Putting everything back together and was looking at the set-up as the previous owner had installed Euro headlamps on this W116 Turbodiesel.

For the life of me, I cannot see where fresh air gets into the intake tube. Obviously some must but the US style double sealed beams naturally have air gaps between the lamps and the housing. The Euro has no such air gaps and appears to be sealed, making the US intake bracket (at least appear) to provide little if any fresh air into the air cleaner.

How have folks overcome this with Euros on a W116 300SD? Or am I overthinking it and it does get air (if so, from where?)

TIA

You'll probably need to make something like this W124 guy did.

Mine has a louvered panel under the passenger side headlight. I have US lights.

Good, I wasn't loosing my mind Forced. I stuck a coat hanger down it to poke around and see where it came out and never did.

Mine also has the louvre 1980sd. I think it's a vent for the battery but not sure. Might sound kind of goofy but I was thinking of figuring out a way to use a downspout flexpipe from Home Depot (they have one that is flattened on the end to appx 6" wide by 1" high) and somehow running that up under the battery tray.

I have done so much in rebuilding this car, hate to choke it with no fresh air.

There was a video somewhere that showed the inlet tube was visibly contracting from the restriction when the engine was revved.

Lemmie see if I can track it down.

I believe it Forced. I was looking at it and for the life of me could not figure out where the air was coming from. Bought this one in really good nick but a blown head gasket from an old guy down in Gainesville, FL. Been taking my sweet time with it and got "while I'm in there I might as well" 'd to death. Started off with the head gasket and evolved into:

Sent the head out and had it rebuilt with almost all new innards
Rebuilt turbo (myself)
Rebuilt starter
New (rebuilt) injectors from ************** with Monark tips
New water pump
Rebuilt double diaphragm vacuum pump (myself - thanks to Phil)
Probably $500 in sundry nickel and dime crap

Project started in Feb and hopefully will get across the finish line this week.

While I have you both captive, any idea what these two fuse links are for and what size fuse goes in them. Somehow in the teardown these two have come up missing.

Thanks!

Looks like an aftermarket alarm system.

It had this goofy Radio Shack paging alarm system on it from the early 90's. I pulled it as it was useless to me and I could not see where it ever interacted with the ignition or starter. Looked like it just paged the owner if someone was messing with the car.

Ok, so those are not factory and I'm not going to worry about it. Hopefully! I have this aching feeling that POS alarm is going to come back to haunt me.

I believe those fuses are for the radio and the ACC aux. pump.

Ruh roh. Possible you can go look at yours 1980sd next time you're out and let me know what goes in there? If nothing else, I'll have a couple of hot lines going nowhere!

Thanks to both you guys for your input. Really appreciate it!
