Angry Sagging Rear 1984 300SD

The rear end on my SD is real low with people in the back seat. What can I do to fix this? Anyone make a coil over shock?
Thanks.

more likely the springs have aged, and gotten weak. also, the spring pads can be replaced for more height.

how full is your trunk?

Botox might help

Check the subframe bushings and diff mount as well.

Out of the two sagging MB's I've had.. BOTH had broken springs due to rust. People will tell you to do everything but checkout the springs, the springs is where I would start first.

Rear springs are easy to get out. I replaced mine with a set from a 100k car.

I've done some extensive ride height investigations on the W126 and the very first place to start is to get the fenderwell height off the pavement on both sides of the vehicle, with nothing in the trunk and with about 1/2 tank of fuel.

With such data, some reliable suggestions can be made.

Without such data, we're just taking shots in the dark as to the best solution.

Sometimes the solution is new springs, sometimes it's a less costly option.

I got the SD to ride perfectly with a change of spring pads in both the front and the rear. No new springs required.

You got it. Car sits / drives okay with 2 people. Add 2 more in back seat, hit a dip , and trunk floor bounces off street. Yeah, I know, put them on a diet.
I thought I saw a progressive type spring the other day, can't find it now. That would help with the "overload".

These cars will drag their tails with 3 in the back seat but the suspension shouldn't bottom (no pun intended).

You can retrofit rear SLS from a 500/560SEL. Someone just listed a 617 TD head on the parts forum.

Do the simple stuff first like the spring pads, and work up from there.
These are old cars and the rubber gets old and saggy and or hard.

when I replaced the Differential mount it made a slight change. (W123, same rear suspention)
Later on I replaced the Sub Frame Bushings and Trailing Arm Bushings. tightened up things, may have helped some on the ride height.

Last thing was a set of Progressive springs.

Rear sag

What is the thickest shim you can put in is it 19mm?How many inches would that raise your rear?I too still have sag even after adding HD springs along with HD shocks when I have a lot of weight in trunk.Wish someone would make an air shock for the 85 300SD

On your car, these are the parts that should raise the rear suspension up to level or a little higher.
