Is there a place to plug in an OBDII scanner on 1995 E300D?
My SRS light has come on and I went to hook up my OBD II scanner and there is no port underneath the steering wheel are.
Is there another spot to hook these up or is it because these werent standard until 1996? |

Not standard in the 124.
Check battery voltage when the light comes on. It might be a sign the voltage regulator is tired. Sixto 87 300D Sixto 87 300D |

As sixto said.
There is a diagnostic module on them though. Do a search on diagnostics on this chassis. Pretty simple/straight forward.

As a note, even if it were a 96 and OBD-2 compliant it wouldn't give you airbag faults.

there is no 16 pin obd port under the dash - everything can be scanned by a flash tester from the 16 pin diagnosis port beside the battery. dont remember the SRS pin, but 4 is Diesel Idle control system, 7 is HVAC, 1 is ground, 16 is switched positive.
A very usual case for SRS light problem is low voltage.

Here is a pic of diagnostic connector layout. I've never had the need to use it, but I am wondering how to go about building a flash tester . . . or where to get one if they're cheap. Anyone done this?

As was mentioned.....ODB II didn't take effect until the 1996 model year across manufacturers. Prior to that they were ODB I for a number of years....and that was manufacturer specific. ODB II was a standardized interface

the diagram for making it is available on this site too, search for it as LED code reader. You can also use a small 12V light bulb.

For emissions related faults in the engine and sometimes transmission. It often won't give you accurate information about body module faults, moreso on a German car. -J

Additionally regarding OBDII, there is a specific list of standard OBDII codes that are required to be available from all manufacturers. This covers only a fraction of codes from various manufacturers. Things like airbag systems, antilock brake systems, electronic transmissions, etc. are NOT part of the standard OBDII code set, thus, manufacturer specific test equipment, or special aftermarket professional test equipment is typically required to pull these codes.
