Thanks to everyone for the encouragement. I'm sorry it has taken so long to upload the photographs. I had a bit of a computer crisis to deal with too... thank goodness for software like photorec that has helped me save a few missing files...

I've got about 4 more pictures to find then I'm done.

Has anyone got any more comments with regard to stuff that should be included?

I've read this DIY so many times now I can't see the wood for the trees - and there any silly mistakes that you can see? Any help will be appreciated.

How would we know? Has anyone else ever done a 722.1xx? You have sufficiently baffled us with B.S. We are collectively gobsmacked.

I am happy with the torque converter/pump illustrations. The reverse (B3) is also well done ( page 3, #32 and #37) although I don't think you specifically mention that it has a habit of backing out and making one think one's transmission is in need of serious repair when it isn't. As for how the adjuster looks - I think they all have that look. I think I read somewhere that they snapped off the adjusting lugs at the factory or some such thing.

Seriously I thought that people had rebuilt transmissions here but as it takes so long to write stuff up nobody had done that yet...

It isn't my intention to baffle anyone - I'm trying to explain what I found and how I "fixed" it.

I get the impression from what you say that what I've written isn't particularly clear or particularly inspiring - bugger. As usual too much information?

WRONG - I finally got around to reading through a good bit of this thread last night and I have not seen any bs. I think it is very clear and well put together/documented. I've actually subscribed to the thread to to use it for future reference.

You have/are doing a GREAT job with it Army and I want to extend a big THANK YOU for putting it together.

The reason you don't see alot of input is because there are very few people on this board that have been this deep in one of these MB transmissions. I am not in that group yet but do see a need for the service. I had a spare one time that I was intending to tear apart and learn all about it but ended up trading it towards a rebuild.

Thanks Jim - if you or anyone else needs me to clarify some areas please let me know.

I'll add in the missing pictures ASAP.

a very good piece - thats why I love PP so much, far better than the cryptic factory procedure.

There are two on the front in this picture that I posted on the first page

I think these are for measuring the working pressure and the front pump pressure. I'll check for sure...

EDIT:-

I don't know where I saw the information regarding these two ports on the front of the transmission. I swear I saw it somewhere and I'm not just dreaming it up. If I stumble upon the information I'll post back.

Does anyone know what they are for? Could it be front pump and torque converter pressures? (I'm guessing it isn't working pressure as that can be measured from the rear - see next post)

Here are the ports for the pressure measurements

Here's a picture of the pressure ports on the back of the transmission

I got this information from a very unclear picture in the ATSG manual...

thanks ill take look this weekend at mine even though mine isnt vacuum actuated should be the same test ports.

The three main pressures in automatic tranny our mainline pressure which tests the oil pump, regulating pressure which finds out problems with the governor and modulator pressure which checks the pressure regulator. interesting setup to include those two in the front ive always though they were part of the casting which went to another car and wasnt applicable here.

Hey I'm happy to oblige - unfortunately the shipping from me to you would kill any deal we could make.

I've got another two 722.1s to do up and I'll be passing them on in the near future...
