Do you ever regret selling your diesel?

Some days I wish I had my W126 back.

The W201 I drive now is nice but it feels like a Honda Civic especially on the interstate.

When I was going to buy my first Benz I had my eye on w201's. At the time, I drove my moms w210 a lot and that's what made me want an MB. I went and looked at three w201's, and from driving them, I know what you mean. They can look soooo sharp when they're cleaned up well, but they just didn't have that graceful, Mercedes feel to them. And I do not mean that in any sort of bashing way, just more of how they felt to me. I always wondered if it was because of the condition of the ones I checked out.

Not too long after that, I got my w116, and now that she's sold, I have a 123. Even with the clickety-clack diesel engine, it still has a certain amount of a refinement feeling to it. Not as much as the w116, which was probably one of the smoothest cars I've ridden in, but enough that I still feel like i'm in an MB. I can understand why going from a 126 to a 201 would make you feel that way. Not to say there's anything wrong with a 201 at all, just that it's like a different car.

I still regret selling my '81 300SD in 1989. We moved from Columbus to Chicago and needed to go from two cars to one. We kept the '85 RX-7 and sold the SD. Then I got a job with a 90 mile daily round trip, and every day that I was in that tiny car in stop and go traffic with a stick shift for four hours I missed the SD. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

thats the reason I always find myself grabbing the keys of my benz rather than wifeys new maxima.. its clackety, oldschool and generally heavy on feel. Its solid..

Mrs thinks otherwise.

I also had a diesel VW - miss that little car, always up and ready for any task.

I still have every diesel.......(at least the engine) I ever owned.

I miss my 240d. :( Well I miss the manual tranny at least. :'(

Time to 3 pedal swap the 300D I guess haha.

201's don't feel like a civic at all if the suspension is taken care of. They ride like a miniature W124.....waaaay more solid/refined than a civic.

I miss the '75 240, as slow as it was (auto) but I do not miss at all the rust.

Good. :D I did that on my sister's car and it felt brand new afterwards!

'85 300TD is the one I wish I had kept.

steamboatsykes 09-12-2011 08:46 PM

I let go of a nice 92 300D perhaps 3 years ago. In hindsight, I really should of kept it. Looking for another W124 Diesel, this time I think it will be a 95.
