How wonderful to see Peachparts grow. The legacy continues.

I have not been involved in the forum for some time. Between work and medical issues.( Hypothyroidism, Nothing major. Once diagnosed, it is easy to treat, Its the diagnosis that the modern medical system is incompetent in diagnosing.) I have re-prioritized my list. So I'm turning my shop back into a wood shop and not working on the cars much anymore. Besides I'm getting to old to get up and down off the concrete floor.
So I'm getting rid of parts I have collected over the years for W123 I have owned, 6 in all. I've looked around the Forum and it's amazing how many DIY article have been done. The DIY are very helpful to the up and coming DIYers joining Peachparts.
And as time goes on it seems the new models are being represented. W140 and W210 etc.
It's good to see the legacy is being moved forward.
Thank you for all you who have expanded this forum. I guess I was one of the first DIY motivators. Keep up the good work.

I'm afraid I have gone to the dark side. We purchased a 2007 Honda Accord. But in all honesty, It has been a wonderful car. In the shop 2 times in 112,000 miles. My 99 E300 Turbo Diesel was a wonderful car, Just a shop queen.
We still have my daughters 83 240D and will sell it this fall. Been waiting for the heat to subside to detail and fix up. Were the second family to own it. And she, my daughter, has moved on also, wants to sell it. Then all that will be left is my 1988 560SL.
Getting it back on the road and if it does well I will keep it. If it becomes expensive I'm afraid it will be gone also. I like the car but my time and money have become more important than just keeping a car. I love a convertible but the Honda S2000 is very reliable and a really neat car.
The Airline Industry is collapsing and I have only 3 years left till I turn 60. I plan on going at 60, we can fly to 65, but I'm not interested and this industry anymore. American Airlines may be going Ch 11 in the next couple of month due to incompetent management. They received record bonuses in the airline industry, but we were at the bottom of the statistics. American will probably go bankrupt spring of 2012, if it happens at all. Lets not get into the dismal economy. The legal system is not kind to labor. Management gets rewarded and labor gets screwed . Well see what happens
I digress,
The forum is doing wonderful and I'm glad to see the follow on members have done a great job keeping the legacy going on. Keep the DIY going and it's nice to see the video DIY's added

Congratulations

Dave

Good luck with it Dave.

I've gotten out of the "corporate" world and settled down back home doing what I want to do these days. I got tired of the rat race.

Best of fortune Dave. It is getting harder and harder to get a clear picture of the future. All I really see both north and south of the common border between us is ever expanding government function at all levels.

Seemingly any form of restraint is not present at their level. Good time to view retirement as an alternative. It is getting far too hard for many businesses to function at all.

I just purchased a strong sawdust collector system to enable more woodworking projects in the basement without dispersal of sawdust through the house. I never had a permanent woodworking shop but instead usually moved the equipment to the job location as required. Use of the large attached garage is not practical as it is full of things we do not wish to dispose of.

I have decided no more outside woodworking jobs in our retirement. Now I can get down to serious furniture building. This is an interest I have always had but never the time for until now I hope.

Retirement is good. I have been at it for quite a few years now. I find that as long as you are busy at one thing or another it is very pleasant most of the time.

Strange your thyroid condition was not detected early. It is a checked off box in my yearly lab work for no reason or symptoms. My wifes issue with hers was detected early by the same testing stratagy. The side effects of no treatment can be pretty severe. I would ask my doctor why you were not regularily tested for it when your normal blood workup was done. Especially since you are a commercial pilot. It can seriously effect even your vision.

You have produced some very detailed pictorials for DIY guys. I was studying your rear bearing R+R this weekend. If you're going out of business, what do you want for your rear bearing caselated socket.

Hi Dave, and Bonjour from France
I've never used your DIYs in detail, but in my early 123 days would often be encouraged by the thought that they were there if needed! Hope you don't end up seeding a Honda diy forum!!!

Hi Dave,

Sorry to hear about the thinning of your MB heard. I have to agree with you if you want trouble free driving buy a Honda.

However if you find you have some time when you stop working I think there is nothing more pleasurable than taking a well built nicely engineered car like an old Mercedes to bits.

work on a honda one time, and you will cherish the simplicity of the MB design.

Dave,

Great to hear from you again!

I hope the medical issue won't threaten your flying as long as you can and want to.

My wife bought a new Honda Fit and I have to admit it is a very impressive vehicle.

I took up flying again and bought a really nice Cessna 140 with a custom IFR panel. The avionics are old, but work very well with about everything except a DME. Getting back into flying has been very therapeutic for me.

Take care of yourself and don't be a stranger.

Dave,
my Dad worked for American Airlines for 30 years and was forced into retirement at age 60, that was 16 years ago. He still misses it today, but will be the first to tell you how the industry has changed since his early days. He says that back in the day it was like family, now its all about numbers.
He spent a number of years in Buffalo, Rochester, St Louis and then finally Chicago. He did get a good retirement package though, and he is thankful for that. I wonder how American's future will affect the announcement of the huge purchase they made with Boeing and Airbus?
I can sympathize with you about too many cars and not enough time to work on them. My 86 300sdl has been sitting in the garage since April when the A/C compressor went out. This summer has been too hot to drive without it. Our weather is your weather, but we have luckily had a little rain, you have not. I have the new compressor, the expansion valve and drier just sitting on the shelf, but alas no time to do the work, and cannot trust anyone here to do it. Honda's are great vehicles for their intended purchase, Transportation. I found a 2001 CRV with ice cold air and a complete service history that I have been using as daily transportation since April. This will become my son's car when he gets his license in December. My wife's 03 Honda Odyssey is cruising right along with 150K on the odometer, my daughter's 2000 Toyota Camry with 150K is also problem free. My 67 Beetle is the classic garage queen, and our Sunday go to church vehicle, a 2010 Volvo XC90 is also a nice vehicle. But then there is the Benz, nothing drives or rides like it, and I will get the A/C fixed this winter.
I also have not been on the forum since spring. It seems like if I am not driving the Benz, I am not reading about other Benzs'. Shame on me, but I will be back once I am back on the road again.
In fact I need to start searching the A/C DIY's

John
