Amazes me how "temperamental" throttle linkage is

Lubed my throttle linkage about 9,000 miles ago. Recently let car sit for three weeks or so (maybe drove it 20 miles) while driving the other car. Drove it this morning and found linkage sticking....slow in letting go.

Are other cars like this or is this something peculiar to older Benzes? I'm going to start lubing mine every 5,000 miles.

ATF, like manual says. But I'm thinking of using HD silicone spray in addition to ATF.

I've read a bunch of threads as to what different people use. Sounds like general attentiveness and thoroughness and frequency may be more a factor than what's actually used.

There is a pivot point behind the injection pump, its often overlooked and can cause throttle sticking. Unfortunately its hard to see with the intake manifold on and even harder to access for lube. Did you lube this one?

No. And I will freely admit that I'm still learning about all the points that need to be lubed. I'm sure when I last did it it was only the stuff up top....i.e. from cruise actuator over to stuff to the left of it.

I'm pretty sure that's what is causing the sticking. I don't really have any advice to offer on how to access the pivot point. I always clean/lube the pivot rod when I change the glowplugs - with the intake manifold off its pretty easy to access.

if the pivot point on the firewall is sticking I'd replace it. It's probably originally and is starting to fail/fall apart.

I find that mine dry out fast in the hot summer months, and I can feel the increased binding in the pedal. I don't actually follow an interval but I am sure I do them every 5-7k, and probably every time I change the oil in the hot months.

I lubed the linkages on the 240D with white lithium grease and did the same for my old 300D when I had it. Not a single issue.

On the OM617 turbo automatic, if the links between the pump and the roller mechanism on the valve cover are adjusted too short, the roller will hang up on the plate when it tries to return to idle, resulting in a stuck accelerator. The roller needs to have no tension on it when it's sitting in the idle position.

The tricky bit is if the links are too long, the manual shutoff lever doesn't work. I still haven't quite found a working compromise on my car. (And yes, I did start by adjusting the entire linkage according to the service manual.)

White lithium grease. Never misses a lick and stays where I put it. ATF just doesn't make sense to me, MB engineering prowess notwithstanding. Seems too thin and too likely to collect dirt.

I use moly grease. Even when it dries out the moly keeps it slippery & stops it sticking.
