Is there a REAL way to see if your tranny is adjusted right?

Let's see here. My first to second shift is jerky unless I feather the accelerator. If I MASH the pedal all the way to kickdown, it will hold the gears to redline (I think) and the shifts are VERY noticeable and DO jerk the car forward somewhat. However the shifts are quick and do not delay. Does this sound right?
