Looking for a speedo for my 87 TD

The Odometer on mine is non functional AND the tach does not work so probably better to get a working unit than trying to make this one to work. I could get a speedo from a gasser but that still leaves the tach dead. Cheers Dan

The 90-93 300D is a donor. IIRC you also use a speedo from a 93 300E or 94-95 E320 (except 4Matic wagon) without modification since those cars have the same 2.65 diff ratio. The only difference is a 160 mph top end. You need to get a Diesel tach. IIRC you can use a 90-93 300D tach but not a gasser tach.

Are you sure the tach is dead? Might be a bad flywheel sensor or OVP relay. Do engine idle control, AC and cruise control work?

The engine idle control works I think, at least when the plug is disconnected at the back of the IP the idle goes down. Also the numbered plug under the hood changes the idle speed when you change the number to a different one. I am not sure about the cruise control yet can't drive it due to previously noted black smoke issues. I am waiting for an IP that I bought off EBAY to get here. AC compressor is seized. I am not sure how else to troubleshoot the tach. What kind of signal does it take. I will check the flywheel sensor if I can find troubleshooting info for that. Cheers Dan

I've got several dashes that'll work in your car... not sure what shipping would be to you...
however, most likely the ovp relay is popped, and you've got a bad gear in your speedo... I'd rather look under the hood above the battery and see if your ovp fuse is popped... also look in the speedometer for the bad gear, and order a new one from odometergears.com
likely set you back around 45...

IIRC EDS is downstream of the OVP relay so functioning ELR (IP idle control) acquits the OVP relay. Still worth at least checking the OVP relay fuse.
