A little something you may like...
Here's my new engine!
Notice in the above shot how the car is almost looking longingly at it.... 1025 miles on it. Now, what to do with it. It's almost too nice of an engine to put into that white 85 sitting behind it... tempting to pull the engine from my 300CD and put it in there. |

ok, it looks like a .951, be sure and swap the sundries over before dropping it into either.
gawrsh! that's sure purrrdy! two things stand out to me, the shield behind the alternator is new to me! I've never seen one before... also the elbow on the turbo, I'd think it's from a CA motor, but that'd be an 85, and this has things on it an 85 would not...

That engine has no SLS pump on the head, how are you going to power the SLS on the wagon?

I'm stilling back and forth as to the valve cover.... polish it or powder coat it. Basically I want to go over it a fine tooth comb and make it as nice as can be before putting it in, and even though its a a rebuild, some parts looked to be reused and I want to freshen them up while they are easy to access. I've decided it's going into the D. I just about have the car stripped and ready for the little bit of body work it needs and paint. Of course that includes the engine compartment since it accessible now. My school of thought on this is fairly simple, The D has more room in it to fit my family and it's a lot less work, after the car's done I should be able to enjoy it for some time and still make enough off selling it to redo the CD later. Once the D is finished I start the process of stripping the cd and redoing it. The CD makes me nervous right now, after reading various threads on timing chains breaking... I don't know the milage on the engine, and don't want that to happen to mine. So I'm parking it for now. There is a LOT of work to be done to the CD, it needs basically all the seals, the rear regulators fixed, new wood, the interior needs to be redone etc... so realistically it's a 5-6k rebuild on top of the paint and body work... thats a lot of cake to me. I can go cheaper if I don't go original, but that hurts the cars value... Oh well, it's a bridge I'll cross when I get there, now, it off to finish pulling the engine out of the D. |

In a nut shell...
Engine was built for a completely restored SD, which was in turn rear ended and totaled in 1025 miles. Engine was re pulled from car after buy car back from insurance. |
