w210 td fixed but something still remains
ok so i removed manifold and replaced the gaskets because they were leaking at the intake to i/c pipe. i have all power restored and zero codes however the td doesnt seem to be 100 percent like it use to be. it also still seems to have a leak from what i can hear. when i boost up i can hear air rushing out. where could a intake leak occure where the ecu wont notice it? or is this the way its soppose to be?

Mine tends to pop out where the up pipe goes into the EGR mixing chamber.
The ECU won't notice a lack of boost because there are too many natural driving conditions that lead to low boost. Also, I would check the exhaust to turbo joint if you happened to loosen or remove the turbo. |

i swear if its not thing then its the other. drove it a lil hard today enjoying some boost and then all of a sudden no boost...no codes. i have exhaust soot all over the pass. side of the engine bay and cant find the source.
|
Did you blow the EGR connection apart at the very back where it connects to the exhaust manifold? Did the metal split?

the exhaust connector after the turbo to the cat was undone. i hope that was my problems but that doesnt really explain why i dont have any boost.

Besides the boost issues you may now have resolved, are you pleased with the vehicle overall? I am in the market for a 98-99, and you seem to be quite sophisticated in your knowledge of the car and its systems. Any advice?

im not very knowledgable of this car at all. its my first mercedes and diesel so im learning as i go. it never gave me any problems till now. 98 and 99 td's are pretty much the same..i'd just make sure that good oils/fluids were used and changed often..as long as the preventive maintence was kept up it shouldnt give you any problems. im still stumped as to why i have zero boost |
To resolve no boost issue, check the basics first.
McCauleyBil: The turbo W210 is a fabulous car. Get a clean one and take care of it. It should treat you well. So far, mine is fairly easy to service. I LOVE the OM606. I'd love to swap one into my W123. SpeedNJay: have you removed the EGR system entirely? Not likely the cause of your issue, but good to do anyway. Make sure all turbo system connections are tight so as not to lose boost or exhaust pressure. Turbo is very simple device. Maybe you are experiencing a fueling issue? |

i'll pull the underside and pressure check the intercooler and piping again and inspect the turbo |
Keep in mind, that just because the car runs well, doesnt mean there isnt a fueling issue.
More fuel is injected based on manifold pressure. Perhaps this isnt functioning correctly. Also, are you aware if boost is being made at all? Search this site for EGR delete thread for the 210. To deal with the electronic portion, 2 resistors are used to jumper two wires. Simple. Best of luck. |

i have a boost guage hooked up and it barely reads 1..maybe 2 pounds boost at wide open throttle |
did a few quick test ...ran the car and plugged the intake hose, the car almost instantly died meaning that the piping from turbo to intake is prety well sealed.
one thing that i did notice was that there is no vacuume to the wastegate actuator. wheres the source for that vacuum? also i think i had a cel code when i checked ..would having a cel shut that vac off? |
Sounds like you're doing some good troubleshooting. The vacuum source is located at the power brake booster vacuum inlet. There should be a "Y" there where vacuum splits off to go to the EGR transducer and to the Turbo and cabin vacuum systems.
The line runs along behind the bulkhead, under the ECU housing and around past the air filter housing to the turbo. And no, the CEL can not shut off the vacuum before the transducer but certainly after it. |
