w116 CDI torque wrench
I own a 1979 300sd (w116) and have been using an old beam type torque wrench for many years. I've been wanting to buy a click type torque wrench for some time. CDI torque wrenches are known to be excellent and have 2 models that I'm interested in. The first torque wrench has a range of 20 to 150 ft.lb. 19 inches long, 1/2 in drive, the other has a torque range of 30 to 250 ft.lb. and is 24.4 inches long, also a 1/2 inch drive. The problem with the second torque wrench is that its way too long (24.4 in) but has a good all around range. I feel that the first torque wrench 20-150 ft.lb. has an alright range but I need someones advice on this one. I would be using the torque wrench for the following; brake calipers, injectors, wheel lug nuts, and motor mounts. What is the most perfect torque range where I can get the most use.... Is 20-150 (34-197 Newton Meters) good or is 30-250ft.lb (47-332 Newton M)good. Like I mentioned before, a 2 foot torque wrench is way too long in my opinion. I don't even know if there is anything on a w116 that you would need to torque frequently over 120 ft.lb. My old beam type torque wrench is about 20 inches long and is very comfortable. A 24.4 inch click type wrench is long and may even impede work in some areas. Do I need a torque wrench range that exceeds the 150 ft. lbs? That is my question, please advise....
