Hella 550 Driving Lights
Installed some Hella 550 Driving lights on Wednesday. Think they look pretty good.
Threw some 100W H3's in em last night, they sure light up the road now!

If you put 150/100 w globes in the headlights they will shadow the Hellas !!
They do look good !! A pair of Cibie super oscars would look better !!

IMO they should be on the underside of the bumper. That said I like the look of certain lights on top of the bumper... like my Hella 500 driving lights.

So thats two sets of H3's and some H4's? Am I the only person on the road who has more trouble with the BRIGHT ASS LIGHTS coming towards me than my own? I'll admit I've had brighter lights than my SD sports stock, but its not that dim. I would think euros would be plenty by themselves.
No offense, just a gripe of mine. The odds of me blindly plowing into you head-on due to your pain array are fairly low.

They dont get turned on unless I"m on an open stretch of deserted road, and thats fairly often. I've had my run-ins with many deer lately, so I just wanted a little more then what the euros put out.

I'd be tempted to hide the auxiliaries behind the grill. Don't think I'd even punch out any of the grill, just shine through it. Anybody done that?

Deer... I've never hit a single one (with a car...) but I've had several run into me.
BTW, is that what the "Midnight Blue" looks like when it isn't completely faded? I'm really looking forward to the day I can put fresh paint on this thing.

The odds of me blindly plowing into you head-on due to your pain array are fairly low. You can always tell the city drivers, as soon as they get out of town, up go the lights to full beam. No idea when to dip. A little sun burn to the eyes is the only way that works to get them to dip. Both my MB's have 150/100w globes in euro lights, it does the trick ! The jeep has 150/100w headlights, 2x 150w aircraft landing lights & 2x 150w Cibie oscars. Its great for working on machinery in the middle of the night in the middle of a field. Instant daylight. The extra lights are wired to only work with high beam ( legal requirement here). When you go from full lights to low beam its like turning all the lights off. mike-81-240d; IMO they should be on the underside of the bumper. That said I like the look of certain lights on top of the bumper... like my Hella 500 driving lights. Best to have extra lights located as high up as you can, otherwise any undulation on the road causes shadows. If you are only after looks, dont bother wiring them.

Low beams:
Brights: Mine are KC Daylighter knockoffs. They are marketed towards trucks but I don't think they look out of place. I believe thinner lights of the same diameter would look better as well as being lighter etc. The rectangular fog lights are from the factory. I vote for bottom and get some round lights for the top I think the big chrome housings look cool here:

I only went with the Hella 550's because of the square design in keeping with the "square" profile of the headlights themselves. I could put them under the bumper but I would have to fabricate some brackets for them. Dont have the time/stuff to do so.

I am not only after looks. I am after performance that does not degrade the look of the vehicle. My beautiful driving lights are currently wired up, and supplement my European H4 highs perfectly, while looking the part. As for shadows created by mounting them lower, I never ever had this problem on my previous W123. Even with HID's installed in my lower aux lights.
