sensor on back side of 85 300D IP... not on 84 SD...
Ok, just found another difference. The IP's are different.
On the original 85 IP, there is this "sensor" on the back side of it with a round 3 plug coming off it, It plugs into this on the firewall, On the 84 SD IP there is nothing... What is it? what's it do? and do I need it? If I need it, the only way I see of getting it would be to swap the IP's... There are no mounting holes in the 84's to attach it. |

That is the Rack Position Sensor. the box on the back side of the IP.
It sends a signal to the EGR Black Box behind the Passenger kick panel. It is all part of the smog emissions on the 85. I thought the 84 had it also, maybe late 84`s had it. In your other thread you asked about the FW sensor which sends a signal to the black box. this is just another part of the puzzle. I would say it can be ignored with out any problems, unless you are going to keep the EGR and all the emissions stuff hooked up. I do know the 85 pump with the RPS can be used in another vehicle w/o the black box. the pumps work the same. the FSM explains it pretty good how it works as I remember. Charlie
