'82 300 TD Wagon - Trouble starting when parked facing uphill

I have an interesting and most likely simple problem. Sometimes when I park with the front of my car facing uphill I seem to have trouble starting it back up after it has sat for a day. It seems to me like there must be some sort of air leak which is allowing the engine to lose its prime. This never happens to me if I park on a flat surface or facing downhill. Has anyone else had a similar problem, if so, what did you do to fix it?

X2 or at least tighten the fuel line hose clamps.
You have a small air leak. maybe even on your secondary filter.
Did you changed anything just before this problem occurred?

Ive had this happen when I had Del-valve 'O' rings leak....

Also worth changing the 'O' rings on the lift-pump inlet and outlet unions...

I don't think I changed anything. I guess I'll just double check all the hose clamps and replace the fuel filters. I'll just make sure to get all those clamps nice and tight.

You'll have to pardon my ignorance, but what is the "Del-valve"? That's one I have not come across before.

I think changing the "O" rings on the lift pump sounds like a really good idea, I have had a couple problems in the past with the primer pump, so maybe this is where I will start.

Bingo !!!

Do you have the old style primer pump?

If you are looking around the lift pump, you are looking in the right place.

I have one of the new style pumps. I am thinking of taking it out and replacing it with a brand new Monark old style pump. The old style pumps seem to pump a lot better in my opinion.

I didn't know someone was still making the "old" style pump.

Yep, indeed they are, just search for; "Mercedes Heavy Duty Monark Ultimate Hand Primer Pump" on Google and you should find it. I'm planning on putting mine in soon, probably when I replace the injectors later this fall.
