what is this vacuum device?

Is this just a large switchover valve?
It's always made noise and now it won't hold any kind of vacuum
and is causing a problem with the transmission.
Is it just a distributor? If so, then can I just bypass the thing?
Didn't see any at the PNP today.

Thanks,
Jeff

Probably an EGR transducer.

Answer

It is a vacuum transducer, frequently used on the EGR circuit.

My EGR is blocked off. There are a number of vacuum lines
that go to that transducer, besides the EGR, The line that
goes to the VCV & tranny branches off and goes to the transducer.

Can I just bypass or get rid of the transducer since it's leaking
or should I replace it?

Thanks,
Jeff

Since you are running WVO you shouldn't be using EGR anyways.

the mystery deepens

OK, my temp gauge suddenly stopped working.
Looking over the vacuum schematic I found online,
I notice that the coolant temp sensor is included.

The temp sensor works off of vacuum????

Temp sensor is connected to the "control unit"
Is the control unit one of those vacuum pod reservoirs?
Maybe I have a leaking reservoir?

Car shuts off fine. Door locks work.
Getting over 20hg of vacuum off the pump.

The temp sensor goes to the EGR control unit. It turns off the EGR at low engine temps.

Is your car a Cal. version? Mine doesn't have such a device.
From the top, it appears to be fairly good sized. Could it possibly be similar to a vacuum booster? If so, you may need to repair it. There are a lot of good epoxy cements out there that could reseal it very easily.

As roy noted that is the vacuum valve for the EGR valve. Disconnecting it disables the EGR and nothing else.

Doesn't the cluster temp gauge use a different sensor than the EGR computer?
