I was going on other posts with pics that showed failed pumps but ok timing cams, mine seemed from look and feel to be ok. The covers for the bearings were press-in washer-type, fitting into the races and the pump was stamped revision 4/1.

The timing device should appear like the "good" one below.

The second photo shows a timing device which is in the process of failing, it has damage/wear at the top of both cam lobes.

yup, mine had no obvious wear or damage, before I replaced mine I saw the pics of damaged/worn cams after trawling many vacuum pump threads, I figured it'd be pretty obvious to see/feel any damage on the cam surface once I had the pump off.
