Picked Up 1977 240D Last Night

Well I'm a new owner of a old 1977 240D! I love this car!! This car drives very nice on the freeway, was able to get it up to 70mph. I think this about the fastest I want to go in it. I found one other thing, is this car is no race car! Since the car itself weighs so much and it only has a 2.4L. But you will get there but not fast.

I found one problem, I found that you must push down the door latch on the drivers side door before you close the door. If you don't you can't close the door. I asked the sellet about this and he said that there was a spring inside the door latch that droke and that he was going replace it. What part is this? How hard is it to replace this?

Another problem is that the seller side the front right tie-rod needs to be replaced. What is the cost on having someone do this?

Thanks for your help,

Hippie, I will change the tie rod end for $ 10. Bring it in March 16 , 11 am. That way we can drop by the Texas Shin Dig on the 17th. Greg

From the looks of the picture, you ended up with a stretch limo.

I've never seen such a door lock problem like you describe. The door panel is easy to remove and goes back on well. If you remove it and examine the mechanism, I imagine the problem will be quite evident.

To remove the door panel, pry off the black plastic insert behind the inside door handle and you will find a phillips screw that you must remove. Then remove the armrest, the escutcheon plate around the striker mechanism and pull out starting at the bottom. The plastic snaps that hold the panel to the door come out and go back beautifully.

Good luck,
