Wastegate spring adjustment OM617

Hello all. I am trying to find info on adjusting the wastegate spring for the OM617. The linked thread in the DIY section is to a dead website. I dont see any other threads on the subject here, although I do find random mention here and there.

I dont feel I am getting full boost. I plan to add a boost gauge and check.

Hopefully this thread will act as a resource for others in the future. I may take this project on myself and photo document.

Thanks in advance.

Talking

To get more boost I didn't fool with the pain stacking spring adjustment.I smiply cut the small hose into, going to wastegate, and added a ball valve.I have mine set at 19 psi winter and 14 psi summer.she was only getting 6 psi.

So you effectively just restrict the opening in the vacuum line? I guess I could do something similar with a plug drilled to a certain size.

Great suggestion. Thanks.

I am still curious about the wastegate spring adjustment. What makes it so difficult?

If it's the kkk turbo then the waste gate is just below the turbo and you need to loosen the lock nut in the center and then turn the adjusting screw. This is not hard but you would not want to do it with the turbo fully heated because your hand comes into contact with a lot of hot stuff. The factory setting is right around 11lb of boost. Make sure to have a gauge to test the boost. I know some people turn up the boost but this does add stress to the engine.

The Garrett/AiResearch turbo is harder but not too complicated; it's just a pain to get to the adjustment. There's a good series of pictures here:

I need to do this with mine; it won't go over 5 psi.
