halp!!! throttle rod adjustment
Hi, I have an 83 240d I bought about a month ago. I have done a valve adjustment and some reconnoitering all over the car. My immediate concern is that after performing a diesel purge and changing out the engine compartment fuel hoses and lines and fillters, my idle is sky high. I don't have a tach, but would guess it is 13-1500rpm minimum. I also cannot stop the engine at the the stop lever. I tried adjusting my idle screw out, but it is beyond the tolerance. The car is running great.
I suspect that the PO adjusted linkages to compensate for poor running. I do not know and cannot find anything regarding nominal stock length of the linkages and am not really understanding the operation well enough to start adjusting at random. I cannot access the mercedes parts site as I have an old mac, I can't even access apple. Before I began the tuning procedures, The engine stop would work and the idle was just a tich high, maybe 900-1000rpm. So I need some helpful information regarding these linkages. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

My first thought it incorrectly connected linkage.
You had to remove the linkage to get the valve cover off. And if the stop lever is not working I think it is hitting something. A picture would be great. - also - there are pictures of throttle linkage posted around here. Plenty. If you follow the gas pedal coming out of the firewall and use your hand to pretend you are stepping on the throttle you can observe the linkage.

Thanks, I got the linkages back on correctly after the valve adjustment. There was some rpm increase at that point and ran a little smoother. After the hoses and filter and diesel purge, the rpm was dramatically increased and it runs way better. The linkages operate properly, but given how I cannot turn my idle down, I feel that the linkages themselves were adjusted in the past to the point where it surpassed the specs of the idle screw.
