Door locks stopped working
Hi again,
A while ago, my door locks went from working to not working over night. I did a search on here and came up with nothing. Is this a common problem? The key goes in just fine, but won't turn in any of the locks. Ignition still works fine. I have tried multiple keys, all to no avail. Thanks!

Maybe it's not your car

So if I understand correctly, the keys go into the door locks, of which there are two, and the trunk lock, one, and they do not turn from the vertical position in the doors and do not turn the trunk lock, but they do all work in the ignition.
I assume also that you cannot lock your car, since the key will not turn the driver's side lock. If it is the same with all of your identical keys, then I would conclude that the problem is with the locks. It is unlikely that all of the locks would stop working at the same time, on their own. Is it possible that someone put something into your lock cylinders to damage them?

This was not the case when it first happened, the keys wouldn't turn in any of the locks. You are correct that I cannot lock the car, and the same thing happens with all the keys.

Sounds like the long wire which connects the lock to the mechanism about five inches below the lock has finally worn. Take the door card off the door and look at the contraption which actually pulls the door catch. It has been a long time since I fixed mine in an 81 300SD but it seems like I just rebent the wire. Still working after maybe five years. If this is the problem, you need not take out the lock or any of the locking mechanism. Easy fix.
PS - when you take the door card off be sure to raise it straight up before pulling it away from the door. If you just pull it away from the door you will break off the plastic keepers and the door card will not snug up to the doorframe again. |

Does the W123 have a junction at which you can apply vacuum to lock and unlock the doors just to check that the system is intact?

Yea, there are two yellow lines near the brake vacuum booster at the firewall that you can try each circuit.

Do you have a MB key? They are thicker than the hardware store ones. They make a better contact with the pins. The hardware store ones eventually break off in the slot and mess up the lock seal. 18.00 isnt too much to pay for the new MB key at a dealer.
