Does 1980 W123 300TD have a speed sensor?

This may seem like a stupid question, if so I'm sorry. I've been looking into how to fix my speedometer. Which was wobbling, then stopped moving all together. Speedometer, odometer and trip counter are all inoperative now.

I found the part number 1235420607 for the Speedometer cable, is this correct?

For the speed sensor I find nothing though, no information on it at all. How exactly does the speedometer work in a 1980 300TD? Thank you.

works of a connection in the transmission no sensor. the cable screws to the back of the instrument cluster and is held in the place with a bolt at the back of the transmission

the speedo in the 123 cars except the 81 wagons have a cable that is driven off the output shaft in your transmission. it turns the odometer, and there is a slipring that displays your speed from the spinning cable.
no computers at all in these cars, so no need or use for a speed sensor.

Excellent, that's what I was thinking it must be. Do you agree that since both are out it's probably the cable that's gone bad?

Do you know if I have the right part number?

Thanks.

I agree, but don't know the number.
if it's not on fastlane, giving phil a call could verify the cable for ya no problem!

What's the basis of cruise control without a vehicle speed input, engine rpm?
