Shocks aside, you'll need some beefier springs.

I own a wagon and have read the discussions on this, which we have had already.

Basically it's like this: There are some springs that will work but they aren't made for a wagon so while they will keep the car level, the car won't have any load capacity anymore. For example, one member here says w116 rear springs will work.

You will need good quality shocks, such as Bilstein HDs. The wagon is a lot heavier than a sedan to start with.

What is the problem with the SLS? Once you are finished doing a conversion, you will probably have paid enough to fix the problem with the OEM.

X2 Stock springs are too weak without the SLS. you need to replace those too.
You may have to make a plate for the top of the standard 300D shock. its certainly been done though with regular shocks and replacement springs, so you should be able to make it happen when you get in there.

Somebody around here sells a conversion kit, but unless the hydraulic shocks are shot (a rare occurrence), it usually doesn't cost too much to get the original system back to snuff. These are great suspensions.

The pumps last forever, the lines can be replaced, the accumulators are about $240, and the valve can be rebuilt for $15 in parts.

Just so you know...

...although I guess the chance of finding this is slim in the US of A...

Not all station wagons / estates were fitted with SLS here.

Have a look on EverythingBenz - Mercedes-Benz Forum and Web Search Using Google for some pictures (unfortunately the part numbers don't show for the rear suspension)

This is for a W123.280 chassis

A valve rebuild, lower ball joints and struts are not $3000, even with labor it should hit 3k.

O-ring kit for the valve is $10 from me.
Two lower ball joints are $50 from fastlane.
Two rear struts are $750 from fastlane.

A solid weekend of wrenching would kill all those.

Here's the DIY for rebuilding the SLS Valve - http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/271457-w123-self-leveling-system-o-ring-replacement-diy.html

What lower ball joints are you talking about then?

Not to be rude, but it's really hard to understand your posts. Bad grammer and spelling, and periods all over the place make it difficult to understand what your asking or saying.

W124 levelling valve for my '89 TD lists at about $450 new over here, must be available used.

There aren't any ball-joints at the rear...?

Rear struts are expensive new but available used, rarely fail. Are they both leaking? They use a different bottom mounting compared to a normal shock absorber and would need serious modding to fit. Better off replacing with used parts at the rear, rather than bodging, plus you'd be guessing at the ride height and suspension set-up....

cheers

... there are no ball joints in the rear suspension...

if the valve is taken apart, and broken, it can be fixed, if it's missing altogether, replacements are easy to come by.
if you need an ENTIRE SLS suspension, I've got two wagons I'm parting out.

Replacing the SLS is a bad idea. Fixing, even with used parts, is a far better idea.
