1988 190D timing cover and front crank seal.
Hey guys,
I had an oil leak on the 190D and figured it was time to replace the front crank seal. So I pulled it all apart and the seal did indeed need replaced but I found the main source of the oil leak. The timing cover is cracked just below the oil seal. I have a few questions. 1. The crank pulley hub is pretty worn where it contacts the oil seal, is there a replacement seal that has the seal surface offset so it doesn't contact the worn areas on the hub? If so where can in find one? 2. Anyone out there have a used timing cover they would be willing to part with? Thanks, Chadd |

I have a 1987 300D engine that I am parting out. Is the timing cover the same ?

IIRC the piece on the crank that the seal seats on is replaceable.

Unfortunately I am pretty sure they are different. Thanks though.

I found a place that had them today and got one ordered. As far as the timing cover I worked on it last night and with a dremel and little JBweld I think it is better than new. Thanks, Chadd |

I'd have done what you did with the cover, as a first try.
And when I did my front crank seal, a new hub was also put in because of wear pattern on it. It's hard to say was was worn worse: the seal or the hub, they wear as a pair where they meat. Say that 10 times fast.
