1986 190D Injectors

Got a new set of fuel injectors, but could not even get the first injector out. I had a deep dish socket on it and a large breaker bar. I was afraid of stripping out the aluminum head, so I quit for now. Anyone ever seen this? Should I be afraid of stripping out the hole? I felt I was really putting pressure on it. Maybe warm the engine up a tad first? Any advice appreciated!

The Injectors thread into Steel. They thread into Prechamber Collar or the top of the Precombustion Chamber (angle Injection); both are not Aluminum.

The Prechamber Collar/Retainer threads into Aluminum if your Head is Aluminum.

You could take your time and start soaking the Injector Threads with your favorite Penetrating Oil for Several weeks.

Try removing the Injectors when the Engine is Hot.

If on your Engine the Injectors Thread into the Prechamber Retainer/Collar and is really rusted I have read of instances where the Prechamber Retainer/Collar unscrews along with the Injector.
If that happens you will need the proper Special Tool so that the re-installed Prechamber Retainer/Collar can be torqued properly.

If your Injectors have threads above the bottom of the Injector as the ones in this pic the Injectors thread into the Prechamber Ratainer/Collar.

The Injectors that thread driectly into the Prechamber have the threads at the very bottom of the Injectors.

(Also a 1/2" drive Breaker Bar is needed because the 3/8" drive ones flex too much.)

Kano Kroil is a good penetrating oil. I think the best out there.

When you start loosening them with the 1/2 in breaker bar. give it a quick jerk instead of a steady pull. even with the 1/2" I have some that were stubborn to loosen.

I apply a little Anti-Seiz to the threads before reinstalling them.
