Looking for some information about how well a 5 speed from a 2.2 190D would work matched up to my 2.5 190D turbo. I've read Jetmugg's posts and he seems to have one with this setup kicking around with either a 2.88 or 3.07 rear end.
I'm really hoping to put a 3.27 LSD from a 16V behind a 2.2 5 speed but don't want to cut too much off my highway mileage. I have quite a discussion on the go on the w201 benzworld forum about what the trans + rear ratios are actually yielding for rpm/speeds compared to the calculated numbers and it would be great get some feedback from anyone running 2.5DT 5 speed setups.
On paper it looks like an ideal setup and it's quite close to the stock euro 5 spd 190Dt ratios (SLIGHTLY lower 1,2, identical 3, higher 4th and lower fifth) but it will rev a tiny bit higher (105RPMS faster @ 80MPH) in it's 5th then the auto would in it's 4th. I can get a better 5th ratio from a 2.3 8V trans and have both available locally but I'm curious to know if the 2.2 trans would work well. I would prefer a shade lower overall setup if it's pennies off my highway mileage as opposed to dollars! Any advice welcome
I also had some questions about the 2.2 trans variations and clutch sizes. I'm a little concerned about the clutch in the old 190D, as it was intended to handle much less HP and torque. I thought I read that there were two different diesel clutch sizes (smaller on earlier 190D's,200mm I think... bigger on later/ 2.5's, maybe 210mm???). I'm hoping to use the larger clutch/disc and was considering whether I should have it's matching diesel flywheel to pair it with in case of differences. I was also thinking about stepping up from the stock clutch and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations about upgrades, manufacturers (Sach? Spec?) and availability of 190D clutches? Again any help would be great!!!!
