Zerex G-05 where to buy?

The local MB dealer wants $24 per gallon for the MB brand.

Is Zerex G-05 much cheaper than $24? (if you can find it)

From memory, about half the price of the dealer item (been a while since I bought some, however).

I thought it was widely available at the auto parts chains stateside. It's now common to see it here in Canada, and if we can get something without too much trouble it usually means it's everywhere in the U.S.

This is the usual coolant/anti-freeze that is recommended for all older Benz's, right? I am changing mine out this weekend.

Yes, the Zerex G05 is the right stuff and get it at your local NAPA store.

Howdy,

Yes, NAPA -- $11.99 a gallon. If you're a AAA member, you get a 7% discount, so final price before tax should be around $11.15 a gallon.

how do you get all the old stuff out though?

i will be replacing the old 'green' coolant with the yellow zerex g-05.

the only 'proper' way of getting it all out in my opinion is to waste a few gallons of zerex by cycling it out but what a waste though.

does anyone have any tips on how to do this without much waste?

If you really want a good cleaning, buy some Evaporust and cycle it and let it sit for at least 24 hours and flush it out like crazy. That will get rid of every bit of rust, scale, and junk. I am EXTREMLY impressed with Evaporust. Cheapest way to buy it is partially evaporated to make 5 gallons OR one gallon for under $30.

... pull the drain plug from the block?
to get it ALL out you need to drain the block, flush out the heater core, and the radiator with a hose.
but as mentioned, just draining the block is often not enough. you need to descale and remove the rust from the passages in the block.
see citric flush, but be forewarned, if you do this, any weak cooling parts will fail...

I was going to do the citric acid method, but temps are getting too low around here. Mine has the green crap in it. I will see if I can find Evaporust.

Pep Boys stores around here also sell it, last time I looked it was about $3 cheaper than the NAPA prices noted above.
