240D 4 speed. T-mount Trans Mount Adjustment Procedure – Is There One?

1981 240D 4 speed (with new engine and trans mounts just installed).

Trying to replace the rubber parts as I discover them. Just discovered the t-mount while installing the engine mounts.

New T-mount for transmission arriving today. It’s going to replace the one that’s a gooey mess at the junction of the engine and transmission.

But I have read on this forum that there is a way to adjust it for optimum and that Mercedes themselves had some printed procedure.
Also read that it the whole t-mount thing was/is more troublesome than it was worth.
Created more problems than it solved sorta thing.
Should I just get under there, stick it on tighten it down and be done with it or is there more to it?

I also have a new differential mount coming today but not sure I can get that one installed today as I dont know how hard it is to do that one.

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
Curt

It's pretty much a take off the old put in the new. A couple bolts and a couple nuts IIRC. When I replaced the T-mount in my 240D I noticed no change in shaking or vibrations. It's a flimsy piece of rubber, I can't see it doing much. I don't think there is any adjustment to the mount.

The differential mount you'll need a jack or jack stand for. You'll want to support the differential. Then loosen the two large bolts from the differential (22mm, I believe), then loosen the four 13mm bolts holding the differential to the car. Make sure the diff is supported, then remove all the bolts. Slap in the new one.

Does the FSM describe a home made tool to check that the engine mounts are correctly situated ?

Not much to it. There are two holes on the side of the mount that gets bolted to the frame. If they don't line up, you aren't situated properly.

The arms that extend from the sides of the engine have one bolt. Nothing to situate there.

Try getting the FSM sections that apply

Curt, I am going through the same procedure right now (I have a '79 240D 4 speed I'm working on to replace all mounts).
Try getting the FSM sections that apply: 00-200 Adjustment of engine stop (that's how the manual refers to to the t-strap mount), 00-215 Removal and installation of front engine stop, and also 00-212 Removal and installation of rear engine mount (this is what the FSM calls the transmission mount). In the first two sections it shows how to make a tool you will need to properly adjust the engine stop.
You will need to release the adjusting screw at the rear engine mount in order to adjust properly the engine stop (front mount, t-strap mount). It's pretty much straightforward if you follow the instructions, but you will need that self-made tool in order to do it properly.

You should be able to find those FSM pages online somewhere, not sure about which website since I have the whole FSM on CD. If not, PM me and I'll be of more help.

Good luck with your endeavor.
