John,
Thanks for your help on this. Put the Combustion Gas Analyzer in the coolant area? Where in the coolant area?

I took an oil sample today and am sending off to Blackstone for analysis.

Hoping for the best, preparing for the worst

Jeff

I've not used one before, but they should come with instructions. it should be a hose that attached to the radiator cap spot.

Rooster, sorry to hear about your head gasket. As for my car it does not raise when cold. I poked around today and looked while the car was off and on and could not pinpoint the leak. I have an appointment at the dealer on Monday for them to look at the car. I have a total care extended warranty on it but they couldn't tell me if it was covered or not so I hope when they do find the leak and if it is not covered under warranty that dealer service isn't too hard on my wallet. Now I just need to get that last leaky oil cooler hose to stop leaking so I have a car to drive come monday. Thanks for all the replies. This thread has taught me a few things I can use in the future. I must say this forum is SO MUCH better than the Mazda forums. People their only care about lowering their car and changing the light bulbs to purple and adding "cold" air intakes. This forum has people that actually know about cars. Thanks again.

Good News

OK. Just did the combustion leak test with a kit from NAPA.
I let the engine get up to 80* and the fluid stayed blue after
drawing air with MityVac for a minute.
It was too hard to get air to draw using the bulb in the kit,
indicating that the system is tight.

Will wait for the oil analysis before celebrating.

Here's the back story on this--
My sixteen year old uses this car to go to school.
Comes home from school and says, "Oh, yeah, there was a big puddle
under the car when I got out of school." He just got in the car and
drove it home!! Didn't even bother to call me

We had a little talk about that

Believe you me, he would have been in that garage with me every single
hour doing the head gasket if it was blown!

I think he's more relieved than me that the test was negative.
He has learned his lesson.

Thanks for all the help,
and keeping my fingers crossed.

Jeff

that's great news! let us know what the blackstone test shows! it'd be best to start a new thread on it I'd guess though.
