Coolant: Is this brand suitable for our cars?

Hi,

I had one of those [bad] thoughts running through my head that woke me up at 3am.

Two months ago, I changed out my coolant with a brand Lemforder no. 10752 blue in colour.

It had green stuff in there which an MB dealership used approx 2 years ago and from what I've read is a no no.

Is the type I've used ok for a late W124 OM606? My worst fear is corroding the alloy.

that's for Volkswagen, so I'm fairly certain it's not correct for our cars, if you don't use MB branded coolant, the chosen type is Zerex G-05.
I do not know if there is any problems using that VW coolant though.

I'd want to do a very complete flush before using it.

Is G05 just not available there? No Ford dealerships nearby?

Hi, I've tried the big auto retailers here for it but I did not think to try another dealership. Is G-05 a standard Ford coolant and does it go by the name of G-05? I just know how temperamental spare parts can be if you don't give them the exact name/part number.

In the USA they call it "Longlife Gold" I would think that most parts stores would have a comparable HOAT type coolant.

G-05

It is a common type for Chrysler Products, also. It can be found, or ordered at NAPA.

Ford Motorcraft Premium Gold or Mopar 5/150 (Ford or CJD dealership) is the same as Zerex G-05 - matter of fact, Zerex blends it for Ford and CJD.

Heck, they still sell Jeep diesels in Austrailia - just drop by a Jeep dealership - they use the same stuff in Jeep Liberty CRD's - I'm one of the rare breed that has one of the U.S. versions they sold here in 05 and 06.

Bloody convenient, using the same type antifreeze for both the 87 300D and the 05 Jeep CRD.

what is the risk of using another brand coolant? just started getting cold enough to freeze at night. i blew a coolant line and so my ratio is off and was just gonna redo with some 'peak' or some such brand that i had lying around. that a bad idea? if so, why?

Yes I have been wondering the same thing, I don't know if I have the correct coolant, hasn't been an issue to date however.

I don't think the brand changes much, however, you absolutely do not want to mix green and pink together, as they will bond and clog up your water jacket, causing a very messy need to flush and backflush, and start over. The recommended coolant is the clear one (G-05 ??, I think) that is sold through NAPA and lower my temps by a good 5 degrees from the green stuff. Normally available through NAPA and also is used on the Chrysler cars.
