SD vs. D

Can anyone tell me, in brief, what the difference is between the 300SD, and the 300D?

The 300SD is a short wheelbase version of the W126 chassis. Your car is a W123. Its like an E class and an S class today. Both are made by mercedes, they may share engines, they may share minor components, but at the base of it, they are totally different cars.

Is that what you mean?

Unless it was a 300SD that wasn't any version of a W126.

her...

OP, the SD is a more refined vehicle. larger footprint on the road, and more comfort features in the car.
usually have leather seats, electric seats, ALWAYS a turbo vehicle. roomier inside, etc...

I like to put in terms of breakage

So the w123 300D has 150,000 things to go wrong/parts to break

And the w126 300SD has 350,000 things to go wrong/parts to break

Some versions of the 300SD have a better kitchen than the 300D.

One looks like a Mercedes and the other looks like a taxi cab.

Both are tractors at heart, ie OM617
