hard shifting transmission

yesterday, i pulled the glow plugs for cleaning and when finished installing them took the car for a ride. the transmission shifted at the right time but the shift in all gears was very hard [jerks your teeth out] does anybody have any ideas what i knocked lose and where it is when i did the gp maintenance? i have not been able to find it yet. the car is a 95e300d.

thanks, hunt

Clearly, you bumped a vacuum line and either disconnected it or caused one of the connections to loosen so that the system isn't holding vacuum.

Either you find it visually, or you get out the Mityvac and go one connection at a time.............

You pulled a vac line off somewhere. Look around in the area you were working for a hard plastic line that isn't connected to anything.

It's easy to disturb the vacuum lines going to the vacuum control valve when you're working on glow plugs.

Another thought it not the vacuum lines... Since you have to take the IM off to access the glow plugs, did you by chance twist the throttle cable adjustment screw that's on the top of the IM and, as i find has to be removed to take the IM off.. The reason I ask if you checked this is because i recently took my IM off to replace a sensor and ended up twisting that adjustment knob thinking it unscrews. anyway, it actually improved my shifts a bunch in that it made my 2nd to 3rd a lot less harsh.. is it possible it could do the adverse?

with mine i don't have to take the intake manifold off, though i do have to take the resonance tube off, i relocated the oil filter to the base of the engine behind the air conditioner pump and in front of the motor mount. also got rid off that wiring harness tray when me and a friend rewired the harness. now you can get to all the gp,s with no sweat. what i'm trying to say is that i did not mess with that, i think. i'll certainly check it out though.when you are old as i am you get mighty clumsy. i am sure that i knocked a vac line off like the others suggested. i haven't had a chance to work on it yet, what with the wife,s honeydos

thanks, hunt
