96 e300d motor mounts
I suspect my motor mounts are bad on my car, I am getting a lot of vibration at idle at certain rpm's seems like the vibration is coming from the two shocks on the front of the engine. I have read some threads on this subject and some say you can measure to see if there bad. Can someone tell me what to measure to see if there bad. Thanks for any help

Probably not motor mounts at only 55,000 miles. Belt tensioner shock and spring could be worn, but I wouldn't think so at such low mileage. Maybe an injector issue such as imbalance or wear.

The car has 147,000 now.

The car has 147,000 now, is it best to use mercedes engine mounts on this I read on other threads that other brands besides mercedes did not last is long.

Support this site and order them from Phil at the 8 hundred number shown.

Lak,
The mounts are bad. Just replace them, period. As was said, order from Phil. You won't believe the difference. Rgds, Chris W. '95 E300D, 356K |
Agreed, just replace them as it's a pretty easy job. Check clearance between your top radiator hose and the power steering pulley when you're done. Can't remember if locations are different on your non-turbo engine but on both of ours I found that with the new mounts in place and the engine sitting up higher the pulley was hitting the underside of the hose. Just had to rotate the hoses a bit to get more clearance.

I usually buy from Phil, I just wanted to know which brand is best, he stocks three different brands!

New mounts measure 17mm, when they hit 13mm they are considered bad. You have to measure from one of the rubber rims up to the supporting arm. Is diff to describe but will prob make sense when you are under the car. Use something like a 10mm socket whose OD is 13mm as a feeler gauge.
Left and right mounts are usually made by two diff suppliers. IIRC one is Febi and the other Cortec or Corton? They each have diff rubber durometers. |
Thanks very much for the information, thats exactly what I needed to no.
