Yes, but yours is the 87 124 gas version, not the w123 version that goes behind the om617... Totally different application I believe. Plus, getting a whole 5 speed already diesel car would make the swap about as painless as it could be.. That alone would be worth something...

My guess is if this is a true 5 speed just the trans and associated equipment would be worth every bit of 2-3k by itself.

You are right that it is not the same. However, the point that I was trying to make is that both of those transmissions (even though they are different) are rare here in the US.

All you are buying is a transmission, a pile of spare parts, some scrap metal, and a 10-15hr job.

Its rarity does not make it valuable.

the five speed for the 123 is rare as hens teeth. I don't think you would have a lot of takers at 2000 but at 1500 if it included the 300 FW would seem possible.

I would agree with that. 1500 would be a fair value for a complete 5 speed swap. Throw in an extra $1-200 in scrap, and whatever the engine would be worth (if any), then subtract labor. A good idea would be to throw your auto back in to that other car, and then sell it whole.

I'm not trying to break your balls or anything, its just I caught that same 5 speed bug and ended buying a rusty, P.O.S. with a shot interior. And paid through the nose because it was "rare as hens teeth" or whatever.

After being in the used/antique furniture business for 10+ years, I can tell you that it is worth whatever you are willing to pay for it. The seller is going to play that rare card and try and get top dollar. What you should think about is that it is only desirable amongst us mercedes enthusiasts. There are just not that many of us. The rest of america wants an automatic transmission.

Its too bad your tranny wont marry up to a 617/6, it would be worth something then.

I was told it will. My current auto is a 722.3. That plugs right in to the m103.

If your diesel has a 722.3 behind it, its a direct swap

If it does, and you have all the other little tidbits to go along with it, I might consider doing a swap like this when I get around to playing with my 87 then...

Did anyone on here buy this car finally?

This car has been sold -- I was wondering if the OP or anyone else snatched it up. I was going to go take a look and called up the seller but he said that it had sold "quickly."

A very interesting car indeed -- if anyone on here is having any buyer's remorse or is finding shifting 5 times to be too tedious, let me know!
