Unusable new "OEM" brand tensioner OM603

1987TDT 250K miles

Ive been replacing parts in this engine since my recent perchase. I want to deprive the engine of any chance of "catastrophic failure" Vacuum pump. fan clutch done, no cheap parts right?

Slight ticking at idle, sounds like T chain area up front. After reading posts here I decided to replace the chain tensioner as a first step.

Bought a replacement from a German parts co. that starts with Me thinking that it would be fine. Made in Turkey, threads were terrible, sealing washer had chunk out of it, and lots of burrs. Cleaned up the threads on wire wheel, but they were cut so bad ,the part would not thread in by hand more than one turn. More cleaning polishing---JUNK NO WORKY!!!!!

ANY SUGGESTIONS OF OTHER BRANDS THAT ARE REALLY OEM?? OR DO I NEED TO GO WITH THE MERCEDES PARTS??

You can't go wrong with the Buy Parts -> Fastlane link at the top of the page. We expect the quality parts and service will continue with Pelican. I'm concerned that Pelican also sells lesser quality parts claiming that customer ratings allow an informed decision, but that's been debated to death on other threads. Hopefully there remains an option to talk to a human for a verbal recommendation.

Using "OEM" as part of a brand name is enough of a deception to send me running in the opposite direction.

What do you find deceptive about OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer making aftermarket parts?

Roy,
I think some dodgy parts mob are now marketing a parts brand called "OEM" , a bit like the made in USA China parts.
Probably that is what Tango was talking about.

Using the term "OEM" generically is one thing. Using it as part of a brand name is another. For example, there is a brand name called "OEM Replacement Parts." That's a totally different concept than "OEM replacement parts."

It's all smoke and mirrors intended to mislead. If your question is any indication, it's a successful ploy, at least some of the time.

O.E.M.

Has become a "Tag Line" or "Alarm Bell" for poorly made PRC JUNK attempting to Masquerade as "Original Equipment" [O.E.].

The Real Nightmare will be when the compliant suppliers and the PRC are able
to Visually "Fake" Real Mercedes PARTS.[Whose to say they haven't already?]

Life Sustaining (Yours or the Vehicle's) parts should always be Mercedes Branded.

I need to clarify,
Brand was not "OEM" It is an oem parts supplier(supposedly) with the name
Meyle. (I didnt spell out the name completely first time) It is a German company and they do make some good parts. Thats what got me ticked off.

um, meyle is hardly a quality part nor are their parts made in germany...
I'd rate them above URO but not a lot above them...

I had trouble with a belt tensioner on my 350, the casting of the arm was wrong and it bound up on the big washer. It ended up snapping the threaded part that screws into the timing cover

Is that true for each of the 13,300 parts in the Meyle line-up?

Youse gots time to do a "Due Diligence" (AND the Wherewithall)?

There are Few exceptions to the "Mercedes O.E.Part" rule...
Such as when the Gnomes of Stuttgart "Gots" a BAD sub-supplier and
you have to virtually re-engineer the application.

Just because a supplier makes SOME parts for DB does not ever imply that
ANY of the rest of their offerings a of the same QUALITY.

You've hit the nail on the head. Lack of conformity throughout a parts line.
Meyle is a German company apparently, but their parts are made all over the world. Some good, some poor. Just gonna cost me the shipping to find out in this case.

Has anyone seen the Laso tensioner sold here??

i sell parts for vintage VW's and a large percentage of the meyle parts i have seen are substandard. i would say most, but not all, are to be avoided. the problem is you don't know which meyle parts are decent, so it's easier to avoid all of them.
