Rodent entry found

In my 79 240D, a slight aroma of mouse piss when I have the heat on, inspired me to remove the driver side knee panel and look around. Looking back under the console I could see allot of light coming from a short pipe that comes down from the heater area.(I had a drop on under the car) Looking under the car this pipe comes out in the middle of the tunnel above the tranny. All the times I've have the engines in and out of these cars, I've never noticed that hole in the tranny tunnel What the heck is it? AC water drain? Inside it looked like it had insulation on it at one time but now its all open to the rodent world. I stuffed some course steel wool around whats left of the pipe. I no longer have AC in this car if thats a factor.

Eau de mouse piss?

It's a Christmas winner!

Here's a picture of my tunnel

No holes on top except the shifter hole.

Hole on side for parking brake cable.

This is a Euro W123 300D no AC...

Ahh, Thanks, AC drain, thats what I was hopping it was now i can plug it from the outside and be done with it, maybe my feet will be warmer also.

Army,

that hole is right where that round brown spot is in your pic. Its in the center and half way up the 45+- degree part of the tunnel. Maybe the older style York system had the drain there and yours is later 123?, or never had AC being Euro?

Never had AC

Never had electric windows

Never had cruise control

That goes for the car and me too - I've never owned a car with "luxuries" - straw on the floor and chickens in the back - that's kind of my style.

I plugged the hole from the outside with a chunk of stainless pot scrubber.

That'll keep the little buggers out
