K2 spring part# for a "81 300SD?
I replaced my K1 spring a few weeks ago and it fixed my 2 - 3 cold flare. Unfortunately 3 - 4 started flaring when warm. I've adjusted the modulator, but the shifts are too hard. I searched past threads and found someone who said that installing the K1 spring into the 3 - 4 cylinder fixed their problem. Does anyone have the same experience? If not, what is the part # for the K2 spring? thanks

In my 82 TD I replaced my K2 with a K1 kit, and it helped a tiny bit but not all that much. I don't think I'd bother trying it. I just get the Superior shift kit K722A-D. Here is a thread I started about my 2-3 flare. I never did get the shift kit. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/268570-3-4-flaring-shift.html
Here is a pic of my old K1 and K2 as well as a new K1

I was able to get just the K1 spring at the dealer. Is that possible with the K2, or do I have to contact the site that sells the superior kit and see if they'll sell me the K2 separately?

Are you talking about 722.1 or 722.3?

I'm pretty sure that the 722.3 was in the early 126 chassis 300SD's.
I found this photo online of a 722.3 K1 spring cylinder which is exactly what mine looked like http://inlinethumb12.webshots.com/39755/2974248260102947174S600x600Q85.jpg

Indeed - I didn't know the 722.3 existed in 1981...
If you have EPC then you'll be able to get the part numbers - if not perhaps the dealer can help. I can only get as far as this via EverythingBenz - Mercedes-Benz Forum and Web Search Using Google http://mb.ilcats.ru/part/class/1/ccode/F/cat/67R/type/722/subtype/303/group/27/subgr//vers//imgno/8

Thanks for the links Army. I found this link on Benzworld: K2 PART NUMBER MYSTERY - Benzworld.org - Mercedes-Benz Discussion Forum
The PDF service bulletin on that link is helpful. Biodiesel300TD said that the K1 didn't help much, but that could be because his clutch discs are too bad for a spring to be of any help. Like I said in the original post I've read on this forum that the K1 works for the 3 - 4 shift, but was hoping to hear of more than one success story before I go ahead with the job. It's a 30 minute job and $10.00 part, so I'll probably get to it soon.

Success
The K1 in the 3 - 4 cylinder did the trick. I was able to back off on the modulator a couple of notches and still get a firm 3 - 4 shift as well as getting rid of the clunk I was getting from the transmission when coming to a stop at traffic lights.
