ALDA Shim Specs and Source

My 91 300D is a bit sluggish, though not horribly so. (Frankly it annoys me that my 92 with 231,000 miles is quicker than my 91 with 99,000 miles!) When I described my situation to GSXR a while back, he thought that an ALDA adjustment is my best bet. From all the reading I've done, I think I'm afraid to touch the set screw (though I admire the courage of those who go this route) and will try shimming instead.

I imagine I would start with a 1.0mm shim and go from there. Ideally, I would like to have a bunch of shims on hand so I could fine tune.

Can anyone tell me how/where to get exactly the shims I need? Rather than just eyeballing various washers, it would be nice if I could find a variety of washers that would be exactly the right size and fit. Perhaps such info is buried in one of the many ALDA threads....forgive me if I missed it.

I was going to use the following thread as my guide for the procedure:

Any other advice would certainly be appreciated....I must admit touching the thing at all makes me nervous!

There tends to be a stock shim in there. Fish it out and find similar ones at the hardware store. The ones I found were still off by a fraction of a mm but some sanding took care of it.

Oh, and as to diameter there is this:

Didn't know if I could walk into a hardware store and simply give those dimensions.

What's the thickness of the one that's in there?
