At the risk of being corrected, it was always my understanding that officially Mercedes doesn't sanction any "tampering" with the ALDA as it's (a) delivered as a factory preset and (b) to alter its setting interferes with emissions setup. I think you would need to find Bosch injection service literature, not Mercedes, in order to read about it.

Perhaps you're right....my question arises from a comment by babymog in http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/297778-what-factors-affect-relationship-between-accelerator-depression-acceleration.html post #14.

However, if MB never envisions an adjustment, why would there be a set screw? Only done as initial set-up?

Mercedes techs didn't do adjustments or repair work on injection pumps. Service or calibration would be done by a Bosch shop (pump taken off car and sent out).

This is based on my memory of comments made by Stu Ritter on one of the 'old' Mercedes lists, some years ago. Stu was a Mercedes dealer tech when these cars were current.

At the time Stu made such comments (or at least, on those lists) no one was messing with the ALDA to the extent we see today. Aside from turning the adjustment screw (at your peril) we were told they were not a user-servicable item.

Times have certainly changed....

I sent a 603 IP to Gus at Pacific FI to be rebuilt. It came back with a sealing plug over the ALDA adjustment screw.
