EGR disable on an 81 300TD

I have read through past posts until my eyes are bleeding, but still not sure just what to do.

I would like to disable the EGR on my 81 300TD. Any chance someone could post a picture or diagram of this engine with a big red arrow and circles and such showing me just where I place the necessary bb or ball bearing to do this.

Thanks,

This is the simplest approach.

You won't find a lot of nice specific instructions because tampering with emissions equipment is a federal no-no.

How to disable the EGR

Yes, simply plug off any vacuum going to the egr valve.

It's not that simple. You need to eliminate vacuum to the 3/2 valves, not just the EGR valve.

Okay, I now know what to do with the EGR. But here goes my confusion again...
Does the 3/2 valve have nothing to do with transmission shifting on a 1981 300? Is this valve only associated with the EGR? I was planning on replacing the two springy valvy things on this unit per Diesel911 as mine are VERY worn out. But if they have nothing to do anything but EGR, I won't bother... More confusion.

How do I eliminate vacuum to the 3/2. if in fact that is also necessary.

Thanks,John

Well it has only been in the low teens here all day today, so I just went out and looked at the engine. Here's a picture of what I see. Appears that the tube has been removed already... Any issues here that I need to resolve? Assuming you can tell from this picture!

If the 300D is a non-turbo, the 3/2 valves are used to downshift to 1st gear upon take-off.

81 was a transition year, you may need the valves.

If the vacuum lines are connected and open on the supply side of the 3/2 valves, you are creating a significant vacuum leak every time you press the accelerator pedal.

In the case of a 300TD, what was transitioning?

This 300 wagon has Turbo. If that helps with any of the confusion, or just confuses the issue more...
