Wagon question.

Hello guys. Im new here and have been reading alot. I have an 83 300d that i have been slowly working on. I read on here quite a bit and wonder about the wagons. What is the big fascination with them? My friends grandma has one that has been sitting for years that she wants to sell. I haven't asked what she wants for it yet. It is tan an older woman before her owned it and had to go to the nursing home and it has been sitting for years before my friends grandma acquired it. What could it be worth and is it worth purchasing? Thanks guys im not trying to start anything i just have noticed they are the ones everyone wants.

Probably not worth much at all. Let me know where it is and I'll tow it to the junkyard for her

Wagons in good condition are very rare, for every wagon out there, there's about 8 or 9 sedans (just a guess, I'm waiting for someone to refute this statistic). The storage space is a solid benefit, and lots of wagons came with a manual sunroof (another huge plus). Before I bought my sedan, I seriously considered a wagon, but it turned out to be well above my budget.

FWIW, I really like my sedan a lot. When I told my friends I almost bought a wagon, they thought I was nuts. But I definitely see the charm in a 300TD. If it can be had for an affordable price, go for it!

So would like $500 be a reasonable offer for it? I tried to buy the car one time before she got it and had no luck finding who owned it. It looks straight and has been in the sun like my d.

I would ask her what she would want for it, and see if she'll bite on a slightly lower offer. What are some stats on the car? Mileage? Maintenance records? Straight body?

I haven't looked at it in like a year and i just walked around it. I know the body is straight and don't know what the mileage is on it. I can see if my friend will look at it for me. The car is 45 miles away from me. Is there any other particulars to look at to determine value to repair it or part it out?

We don't have enought info to really come anywhere near a true value. If you are interested I suggest you consider going to have a look at it and make detailed notes about what works and what does not. The surest killer of value is rust. OTOH if it is not too rusty and you just want a driver for a few years it still might make sense.

A lot depends on location. If it's been sitting on sand in the Arizona desert it's one thing. If it's been sitting in a field outside of Boston, it's another.

Wagons are terrible. That's why I have two of them.
Really the versatility. I can take the whole family, the dogs and luggage in one vehicle. Easy to fit groceries or car parts in, etc. Plus as stated they are somewhat rare.

We need more info for value. It could be a couple hundred dollar parts car it a$3k+ if low mileage and good shape.

Yeah but they don't do well off road

Our Land Rovers do that well though. Until I can afford a new G wagon, the Rovers will have to do

any idea what year it is? the older non turbo models are a pain to use on the highway, but decent in town. all of them have hydraulic suspension that is unequaled in any other vehicle (aside from citroens... which also have it) if it has the third row of seating, you can haul 5 adults, and two children comfortably, and the rear seats fold down, or completely remove them for massive storage. even the front passenger's seat folds down... I can fit more in the TD than in my suburban LS... (the suburban holds more passengers though...)

Dont say too much of its location !!

There would be plenty of members on here ready with cash in hand at the front gate!!!!
A well looked after 300D is as scarce as hens teeth !!

Even if it needs a clean & a polish, you will have a very reliable & functional car !!
