Pop testing parameters
All this talk about pop testing. I purchased a set of NOS german nozzles when I first got my TD. I was quite careful replacing each nozzle. My motor runs just fine. No difference than before but at 109k I thought I'd do it. My question is, what is the range that the injectors can beso far out of correct pop, that you can feel the difference. Yes if they all are perfect, that is good. Of course they likely don't even come from the factory dialed in to perfection. So what is the bell curve on pop testing? How far off until you can measure a difference in say mileage, performance, just feel? You know what I mean?

FYI: The OE injectors typically are good for 250K miles or more, unless abused. There is no clear answer to your question. * Pintle damage wrecks the spray pattern. * Heat shield failure damages the nozzle temper, wrecking the spray pattern. * Cavitation is deadly to the diesel injection system. * Weak or broken injector springs do happen, but IMO is unusual. . |
