Today's Junkyard Score

Found a 1991 350SD ......

Grabbed the radiator, AC comdenser with twin electric fans, antenna, inside mirror, outside mirror, CCU, some relays, tailight lens, etc. I'm going back for the rear bumper.

The 1988 420SEL had the better battery tray and an antenna

Also so a perfect set of BLUE w116 front seats --- anyone want them???

I guess I'm getting back into the used parts business.

What did u find today?

How much of the engine is still there? Vacuum pump, injectors, injector lines, VCV would be worth your time. Heck, the turbo, IP and head would be worth your time.

Got a brass radiator overflow tank. Thought it would look really good with the paint stripped off and all polished up. But alas, when I got the paint off, there is so much solder around the joints it would look really terrible. So I guess I'll just clean it up good and power coat it.

Is everyone using an iPad today?

I'm not calling the kettle black. My spelling sucks with no help from an iPad.

All of the engine is there. The only thing that had been removed was the radio, center console switches, and the headlight doors. The odometer shows 358Kish miles. Tomorrow I have to do the "paid for a living" work and I'm out of town next weekend.

I should definitely take a look at the head. Would the oil pan be useful?

Oh.... OH .... and it had a perfect dark Gray dash. Anyone need one? It's my understanding it would fit a 300SDL.

Someone was looking for a 603 oil pan in the parts forum but I think they needed the .96 pan, not the .970 pan. It should just the same. But you'd really hoist the engine just for the oil pan?

Check for a factory rebuild tag on the passenger side bell housing flange. It'll look like this -

Take the engine if you see such a tag! There are 3 .97 part numbers - short block, long block, complete engine. EPC has the actual part numbers. Doesn't matter how much or how little MB rebuilt, it should be worth more than the yard will want for it. Another telltale is there won't be the typical engine number on the block spur ahead of the IP.

Can anyone share how Metric Motors identifies a rebuilt 603?

Does it have a passenger side airbag? Are passenger airbag dashes interchangeable with glove box dashes?

No passenger side airbag on the 350SD. And the dashes are not interchangeable as I recall.

Yes, for my 240D. My poor seats are sunburned and torn and the springs in the drivers seat are broke. I don't know what it's like to drive in a good seat since they've been this way since I bought the car! (My back seats are perfectly fine, of course.)

The head would be worth something and the injection pump would fetch around $300 from someone who wanted it rebuilt with performance parts for a super turbo project.

They really don't interchange because the airbag dash is missing the lower crossbrace for the glove compartment. However, I do believe that lower crossbrace can be cut out and retrofitted to the airbag dash so you can install the glove compartment.
